Arriving: first stop Dehradun

Delhi October 15, 2012

I arrived Delhi mid-morning local time, 5½ hours behind Australian eastern daylight savings time and 4½ hours behind Queensland time. This is the first time I had flown into India in daylight hours and was fascinated to see Delhi and surrounds from the air.  Through the layer of smog, everything looked dust coloured with rare patches of green. It was interesting to see the more expensive suburbs and ‘farm houses’ in close proximity to buffalo pens, and the spread of the shanty towns of the slums.

After transferring to the domestic terminal and a short but sleepy wait, it was time to board a Spicejet flight to Dehradun in the foothills of the Himalayas in India’s newest state, Uttarakhand. Continue reading
